How To Create A Successful Study Guide
Creating a study guide is one of the best ways to prepare for and improve your examination marks. Below are tips to create a study guide that will give you the best understanding of your subject content.
Organise Your Notes
- Divide your sheet into 2 sections. Leave more space on the right
- On the right-hand side, list the important concepts from all of the essential content and then provide summaries and examples for each
- Now on the left-hand side, write cue questions that correspond with your material on the right. Now cover the right-hand side and see if you can answer the questions that you’ve set
This method could assist you in determining which concepts you’re good at, and those that you need to improve on.
Practice Essay Questions
Practising answers to essay questions beforehand is a good way to prepare yourself.
By doing this, you will be ready for similar questions when they come up in the actual examination. While memorising the study material is one way to use a study guide, practising the essay question will solidify your ability to implement written responses.
Make A Vocabulary Section
Dedicate a portion of your study guide to the definitions and key terms of your learning material. Knowing the specific terms and language used in your subjects will help you feel more comfortable using important terms.
How To Study For A Maths Exam
Below are 4 ways to improve your method of studying mathematics.
- Do Your Homework
- Use Practice Tests and Exams
- Try a Study Group
- Learn From Your Mistakes
Do Your Homework
Homework is given to you so that you can absorb the information in the lesson. Do not copy from others or skip it.
When doing your homework, you are studying. By understanding basic math concepts, your abilities would be further perfected. If you see common problems with your learning content, those will likely be tested. Treat your homework as if it were a study guide.
Use Practice Tests And Exams
Your teachers will provide you with old exams to practice. Sometimes, you can even find old exams online.
Rework these problems and go over the homework and notes. When creating your own practice test, you try your hand at each type of problem, and in turn, you are preparing for what might show up on the test.
Try A Study Group
Oftentimes, you may not understand certain information about a subject that your friend does, or in the same way that they do. In these cases, it is valuable to set up study groups and work alongside friends.
Group studying can help keep you on track and encourage you to learn from one another.
Learn From Your Mistakes
After you get a marked test back, read over the mistakes you have made and understand how to fix them.
Since math concepts are known to build upon one another, you must understand what was done incorrectly so that as the concepts repeat and build, this will help you know what to do next time.
