Where To Study Teaching In South Africa

There are many options when it comes to choosing where to study. Many institutions offer teaching courses, which are often different to each other. You should select your institution based on what benefits you need. Types of learning include:

  • Distance Learning Institutions
  • Online
  • University
  • College

Distance Learning Institutions

Distance learning has become the new normal. You get to earn a qualification while working a full-time job. With distance learning through Skills Academy, you have your pick of provider programmes and NATED Diploma courses, each with its own entry requirements.

Online

Online learning has become really popular, especially since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Because of this, you will have a wide variety to choose from.

Before enrolling in an online college or course, ensure that the institution is accredited. Without accreditation, your course will not be recognised by other institutions or potential employers.

University

University is the most popular studying option. There are many teaching courses offered by different universities, including an undergraduate degree and a postgraduate degree. However, university courses are much harder to enrol in.

College

There are FET and TVET colleges that offer diploma and degree teaching programmes you can choose from. You will also have the choice between private or public colleges.

Types Of Teaching Qualifications

There are many kinds of qualifications you can get in teaching. The main ones are:

  • Diploma in Teaching

Diploma In Teaching

A teaching Diploma is usually studied at a technical or vocational institution. However, you can find them at distance learning colleges as well. The great thing about teaching Diplomas is that they only take up to 18 months to complete.

Degree In Teaching

There are various levels of teaching degrees that you can earn. Each of which has its own estimated duration period. You can earn a degree by doing an undergraduate course in teaching and then move to a postgraduate degree.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree (undergraduate degree) takes four years to complete
  • An Honour’s Degree and Master’s Degree are a minimum of an additional two years after completing a Bachelor’s Degree

Requirements To Study Teaching

Every teaching course has different entry requirements, it all depends on the institution. If you do not have a Matric Certificate, there are teaching courses that do not require matric. All you have to do is find the right course for you.
